The linear distance from the 1400-ft elevation contour to the 200-ft contour is 1200 feet.

To calculate the linear distance from the 1400-ft elevation contour in Trail Canyon to the 200-ft contour on the Death Valley topographic map, will will use: Distance = (Elevation1 - Elevation2) / Contour Interval

In this case, Elevation1 is 1400 ft, Elevation2 is 200 ft and the contour interval is 20 ft.

Distance = (1400 ft - 200 ft) / 20 ft = 1200 ft

So, the linear distance from the 1400-ft elevation contour to the 200-ft contour is 1200 feet.

Note: The topographic map is attached as follows.
