The scatter plot for the data is attached below. The equation for the line of best fit is ; Y = 0.47x + 0.05.

The number of pets a household with 8 people would have is 4.

Using technology , equation for the line of best fit for the data is ;

  • y = 0.47x + 0.05
  • slope = 0.47 ; intercept = 0.05

The number of pets a household with 8 people will have is ;

  • x = 8

substitute x = 8 into the equation;

y = 0.47(8) + 5

y = 3.81

Hence, the number of pets the household will have is 4.
