a) Mr. Torres bought 6 watches.

b) In total, Mr. Torres bought 17 items.

How the quantities are determined:

The total amount spent by Mr. Torres on some pens, wallets, and watches = P2,000

The price of each pen = P90

The price of each wallets = P120

The price of each watch = P140

a) Let the number of pens or watches Mr. Torres bought = 2x

The total amount spent on pens and watches is 2x * (90 + 140) = 230x.

The remaining amount spent on wallets = 2000 - 230x.

Equation to solve for x:

230x + 120x = 2000 - 230x

350x = 2000

x = 5.71 ≈ 6

b. The total number of items Mr. Torres bought:

6 (watches) + 6 (pens) + ? (wallets) = 2,000

We can solve for the number of wallets by subtracting the amount spent on pens and watches from the total amount spent:

2,000 - 230x = 2,000 - 230(6) = P620

The number of wallets = P620/P120 = 5

In total, Mr. Torres bought 17 items (6 watches, 6 pens, and 5 wallets).
