I think of a number add 3 to it and multiply by 7

It translates to the expression 7(x+3) where x is the unknown number.

We start with x. Then add on 3 to get x+3

Multiply that with 7 to get what is shown in bold above. Parenthesis are needed so we multiply all of "x+3" with 7.
