1. The vertical change from point A to point B is 1

2. The horizontal change from point A to point B is 2

3. The rate of change shown in the graph is 0.5

How to calculate the vertical, horizontal and rate of change?

1. The vertical change from point A to point B can be calculated as follow:

  • Vertical value from A = 1
  • Vertical value from B = 2
  • Vertical change =?

Vertical change = Vertical value from B - Vertical value from A

= 2 - 1

= 1

2. The horizontal change from point A to point B can be calculated as follow:

  • Horizontal value from A = 2
  • Horizontal value from B = 4
  • Horizontal change =?

Horizontal change = Horizontal value from B - Horizontal value from A

= 4 - 2

= 2

3. The rate of change shown in the graph can be calculated as follow:

  • Vertical change = 1
  • Horizontal change = 2
  • Rate of change =?

Rate of change = Vertical change / Horizontal change

= 1 / 2

= 0.5
