x^3-4x^2=x^2(x-4)\\

Let's group the 2 last terms:


-4x+16=-4(x-4)\\

You can see that there is a common factor: (x-4)


x^3-4x^2-4x+16=x^2(x-4)-4(x-4)\\=(x-4)(x^2-4)\\=(x-4)(x+2)(x-2)
