Grateful
In “A Wagner Matinée,” the narrator feels grateful for how his aunt once cared for him. He remembers her as a kind and loving woman who taught him to play the piano and introduced him to classical music. He is saddened by the fact that she has aged so much and is no longer the vibrant woman she once was. He feels guilty for not having kept in touch with her and for not having done more to help her.
I hope this helps!
