Where's the Answer Decimal?

When multiplying by decimals,
be sure to think ahead about
what the place value of your
answer will be. Tenths x tenths
will be hundredths in the answer
(2 decimal places on the right of
the decimal). A whole number
times tenths will have tenths in
the answer (1 decimal place).
How many decimal places will
be in an answer if you multiply
hundredths times tenths?
Decimal places

When you multiply hundredths (2 decimal places) by tenths (1 decimal place), the total number of decimal places in the answer will be:

2 decimal places + 1 decimal place = 3 decimal places

So, when you multiply hundredths by tenths, the answer will have 3 decimal places.
