Fred is scuba diving. He stops 14.3 meters below the surface to look at a fish. Then he swims down 5.8 meters deeper to look at a reef. If he then swims up 3.2 meters, which is the BEST approximation of Fred's position relative to the ocean surface? Lena chose B as the correct answer. How did she get that answer? Please answer ASAP with every answer to each detail in question.

Choices: A - 12 meters B - 11 meters C - -17 meters D - -23 meters

roughly -17 if I am not mistaken

if you start at 14.3 meters below then go down 5.8 more (14.3+5.8=20.1) then swim back up 3.2 you'd be left with 20.1-3.2= 16.9 which rounded is 17 and since it's proportional to the surface you'd be down so negative. leaving you with -17. hope this helps

Answer: The answer is C(-17) meter

Step-by-step explanation: The best approximation of Fred's position relative to the ocean surface is,⇒ -17 meter. What is Decimal number?A decimal number is a number that consists of a whole and a fractional part.Given that;Fish position in the ocean is 14.3 meter below the surface. He swim down 5.8 meters deeper and then swims up 3.2 meters. Now, By the given conditions we can formulate; The Fred's final position = - 14.3 - 5.8 + 3.2 = - 20.1 + 3.2 = -16.9 = -17 (approx.)Thus, The best approximation of Fred's position relative to the ocean surface is,⇒ -17 meter.
