S(-2, 4) and T(3, 9)

The endpoints of ST are given. Find the coordinates of the midpoint M. Then find the length of ST.

Midpoint: (1/2,13/2) Length: 5sqrt2

Explanation:

Use the midpoint formula as follows: Average of the x coordinates and the Average of the y coordinates.

((-2+3)/2, (4+9)/2)= (1/2, 13/2) this is our midpoint

Now for the distance, the distance formula is just the Pythagorean theorem. Its the positive difference between the x values squared and the y values squared, added together and take the square root.

sqrt((|-2-3|)^2+(|4-9|)^2)

sqrt(5^2+5^2)

sqrt(25+25)

sqrt(50)

5sqrt(2)
