The term chemical energy is defined as the energy which is stored in the bonds of chemical compounds. It is given in the chemical reaction and mostly produces heat as a by-product, known as an exothermic reaction.

Energy changes as it moves up trophic levels because energy is lost as metabolic heat when the organisms from one trophic level are taken by organisms from the next level.

Thus, Metabolic heat is lost when an organism uses chemical energy to move.
