Answer:

130 children's tickets

106 adult tickets

Explanation:

a = # of adult tickets sold

c = # of children's tickets sold

a + c = 236

6a + 4c = 1156

from first equation: a = 236 - c substitute this into 2nd equation and solve for c

6(236 - c) + 4c = 1156

1416 - 6c + 4c = 1156

-2c = 1156 - 1416 = -260

c = -260/-2 = 130

a = 236 - 130 = 106

double check answers:

6(106) + 4(130) = 1156 answers are correct!
