Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Anne have '$x' amount of money.

Then, Betty have ($84-x).

According to Question,

x = 2 ( 84 - x) + 12

x = 168 - 2x + 12

x = 180 - 2x

3x = 180

x = 180/3 = 60

Hence, Anne has $60

And Betty has ($84 - $60)= $24.

Answer:

Ann has $60.00.

Betty has $24.00.

Explanation:

Let a = Anne's money

Let b = Betty's money

a + b = 84

a = 2b + 12 Substitute 2b + 12 for a in the first equation

2b + 12 + b = 84 Combine like terms

3b + 12 = 84 Subtract 12 from both sides

3b + 12 - 12 = 84 - 12

3b = 72 Divide both sides by 3

b = 24

Betty has $24.00

a + b = 84 Substitute 24 for b

a + 24 = 84 Subtract 24 from both sides

a + 24 - 24 = 84 - 24

a = 60

Check:

a + b = 84

60 + 24 = 84

84 = 84 checks

a = 2b + 12

60 = 2(24) + 12

60 = 48 + 12

60 = 60 checks.
