Apollo 11 was launched from the Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969. American astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin were aboard. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong took the first human step onto the surface of the moon! The American NASA program had won the space race. Teammate Buzz Aldrin joined the walk 19 minutes later. The event was recorded on camera and beamed back to Earth. An estimated 600 million people watched on Earth.
