We have similar triangles, so the sides lengths of corresponding sides are proportional.

We have to find x, which is the length of side AC. Its corresponding side in the other triangle is EC.

To write the proportionality we find a pair of corresponding sides with known length: AB and ED, so we can write:

(AC)/(EC)=(AB)/(ED)

If we replace with the values, we get:

\begin{gathered} (x)/(84)=(24)/(48) \\ x=84\cdot(24)/(48) \\ x=84\cdot(1)/(2) \\ x=42 \end{gathered}

Answer: x = 42 ft
