a) P(student and independent) = 58/396 = 0.146

b) P(Republican and professor) = 83/ 396 = 0.210

c) P(democrat or professor) = P(professor) + P(democrat)

= 213/396 + 135/396

= 0.538 + 0.340

= 0.878

d) P(democrat or independent) = P(democrat) + P(independent)

= 135/396 + 108/396

= 0.341 + 0.273

= 0.614

e) P(republican and independent) = P(republican) * P(independent)

= 153/396 * 108/396

= 0.386 * 0.273

= 0.105
