Take any two points

  • (0,2)[Y intercept]
  • (9,5)

Slope

  • m=(5-2)/9
  • m=3/9
  • m=1/3

Equation

  • y=mx+c
  • y=1/3x+2

Put x=15

  • y=15/3+2
  • y=5+2
  • y=7Million

Option C

Answer:

C

Explanation:

we are here given a graph which has budget in y axis and year on the x axis . the budget is increasing at some rate and we need to find out the budget in year 15 if it increases at the same rate.

Firstly we need to find out the equation of the line as ,

y - y_1 = m ( x - x_1) [ point slope form]

so now we need to find out the slope.

slope = rise/run

slope= 3/9

slope = 1/3 [ also see attachment]

take a point through which the line passes, say (0,2) . Now plug in the respective values in point slope form of the line as,

y - 2= 1/3( x -0)

y - 2 = 1/3x

y = 1/3x + 2

now we have taken year on x axis and budget on y axis . So in order to find out the budget in year 15 put x = 15 , and the value of y will give the budget.

y = 1/3 *15 +2

y = 5 + 2

y = 7

and 1 unit on y axis is 1 million, so 7 units would be 7 million .

hence option c 7 million is the correct answer.

and we are done!
