Answer:

12 ways

Explanation:

the mother and father can either stand at the front/back or back/front respectively (2 ways)

that leaves 3 children in the middle -- there are 3 choices for the first child to go, 2 for the second, and 1 for the third = 3! = 6

6 ways for the children * 2 ways for the parents = 12 ways
