Represent the Marked price with an unknown

Let the marked price of the laptop be y

Write out the equation that relates the given information

\begin{gathered} y-25\text{ \% of y = \$463.20} \\ y-(25)/(100)* y=\text{ \$463.20} \\ y-(1)/(4)y=\text{ \$463.20} \\ (4y-y)/(4)=463.20 \\ (3y)/(4)=463.20 \end{gathered}

Solve for the marked price

\begin{gathered} (3)/(4)y=463.20 \\ \text{multiply both sides by 4} \\ 4*(3)/(4)y=4*463.20 \\ 3y=1852.80 \\ \text{divide through by 3} \\ (3y)/(3)=(1852.80)/(3) \\ y=617.6 \end{gathered}

Hence, the regular price of the laptop is $617.60
