the relation associates to every different x-value exactly one y-value.

so, when you look at an x-value, you know immediately and precisely the corresponding y-value.

that is the definition of a function.

e.g.

(-2, 2) and (-2, 3) would mean it is not a function. because for x = -2 we would not know what y-value to deliver as functional result.

but this is not the case here. when picking e.g. x = 3, we know exactly that y = 4. no doubts or wiggle room for any of the x-values.

remember, such ordered pairs always stand for (x, y).
