he object on the right is made from a square-based pyramid joined to a cuboid. The base of the cuboid and the base of the pyramid are both squares of side 6 cm. The height of the cuboid is 9 cm and the total height of the object is 17 cm. The total mass of the object is 970 g. The cuboid is made from wood with density 0.68 g/cm^3. The pyramid is made from steel. Calculate the density of the steel in g/cm^3. You must show your working.

Answer:2.603g/cm^3

Explanation:

Volume of cuboid= 6 x 6 x 9= 324cm^3

Volume of pyramid= 6 x 6 x 8= 288cm^3

Mass of cuboid= 0.68g/cm^3 x 324cm^3= 220.32g

Mass of pyramid= 970g - 220.32g= 749.68g

Density of steel= mass of pyramid/volume of pyramid= 749.68g/288cm^3= 2.6g/cm^3
