11. Mr. Lee made finding the zeros of the polynomial function h(x) = x(x-4) (x + 2). He stated that

the zeros of this polynomial are x = 1, x = 4, x = -2. Explain his error. (DOK3)

Answer:

one of the zeros is x = 0 and not x = 1

Explanation:

Zeros are found by setting each of the factors to 0 and solving for x

Factors are x, x -4, x + 2

Set each of them to 0:
x =0
x + 2 = 0 ==> x = -2
x -4 = 0 ==> x = 4

So one of the zeros is x = 0 and not x = 1
