How does the character of Batman also challenge the reader to think about vigilantism (doing right even if outside the law) as it pertains to crime-fighting?

Answer:

Batman is a vigilante himself, and he gives out the impression that you don't need powers to be a hero, and that human capacities and abilities and limitless. He fights crime with the prime objective to get rid of crime and battle foul forces that haunt Gotham. The Law and order of Gotham is runned by an overall Corrupt Government and the majority of the citizens have no right to vote it out. The Candidates and Voters are paid to Elect an unfair Directorate that promotes public theft and most of the underground Mafia activities to an extent that its become a Business. This Government has total control of all the Financial institutions and sectors like Banks, and Batman Strives to stop this unattended rule of these criminals and sold out politicians by doimg what he can even if it damages him and his economical state.

Batman promotes the Ideology of "doing what little you can, despite how insignificant you may be". He cancels the force of the biased and unjust laws and follows of cry of those in need by bringing up the lid of freedom and opening the pitcher of unwarrantibilty in the name of justice.

(I'm not a batman fan)
