the slope is always the ratio of

y coordinate difference / x circumstances difference

when going from one point on the line to another.

1.

x changes by +3 (from 2 to 5).

y changes by -6 (from -1 to -7).

the slope is -6/+3 = -2.

m = -2, b = 3 is the correct answer

2.

x changes by +2 (from -4 to -2).

y changes by +3 (from -2 to 1).

the slope is +3/+2 = 3/2.

m = 3/2, b = 4 is the correct answer.

FYI

because there is in both cases only one answer option with the correct slope, we did not need to check the y-intercept ...
