every time the grain goes down it doubles,
218 - 217 = 1
217 + 3 = 220
220 - 218 = 2
218 + 9 = 227
227 - 223 = 4
223 + 16 = 239
239 - 231 = 8
so following that pattern
231 + 26 = 257
257 - 16 = 241
The answer is 241
