A company has recently been hiring new employees. Today the company has 32% more employees than it did a year ago. If there are currently 29,700 employees, how many employees did the company have a year ago?

the company a year ago had "x" employees, which oddly enough is the 100%.

now, today they have 32% more than that, well, 100% + 32% = 132%, and we know that's 29,700 employees

\begin{array}{ccll} amount&\%\\ \cline{1-2} x & 100\\ 29700& 132 \end{array} \implies \cfrac{x}{29700}~~=~~\cfrac{100}{132} \\\\\\ \cfrac{ x }{ 29700 } ~~=~~ \cfrac{ 25 }{ 33 }\implies 33x=742500\implies x=\cfrac{742500}{33}\implies x=22500
