First turn the mixed number to a improper fraction
10/4
and divide it by 1/4
10/4÷1/4
10/4*4/1
40/4
10 times 1/4 can go into 2 2/4

2 2/4 = 2*4/4+2/4=8/4+2/4=10/4. This is equal to 10*1/4, so 10 fourths are in 2 2/4.
