26.5 - 9.3 = (26 + 0.5) - (9 + 0.3)\\\\= 26 + 0.5 -9 -0.3\\\\=26 - 9 + 0.5 -0.3\\\\=17 + 0.5-0.3\\\\=17 + 0.2\\\\=\boxed{\bf17.2}}

.5 - .3 = .2
