y = x - 1 ------- equation 1

2x - 3y = -1 equation 2

Since, y = x - 1 in equatiion 1

substitute y = x - 1 in equation 2

2x - 3(x - 1) = -1

Open the parenthesis

2x - 3x + 3 = -1

Collect the like terms

2x - 3x = -1 - 3

-x = -4

Divide both sides by -1

-x/-1 = -4/-1

x = 4

To find y, substitute the value of x into equation 1

y = x - 1

y = 4 - 1

y = 3

The answer is x = 4 and y = 3
