We are asked to find the area of the following trapezoid:

Then recall the formula for the area of a trapezoid :

Area = (B + b) H / 2

where B is the size of the longer base (in our case 4), b is the size of the shorter base (in our case 2)

and H is the trapezoid's height (in our case 2)

Then we use the formula as shown below:

Area = (4 + 2) (2) / 2 = 6 * 2 / 2 = 8 square units.
