The very first European country that was introduced to the potato was Spain. After a trip to the Andes, the Spanish explorers were seen to have brought home a lot of silver from their trading from the people in that region. Also, they brought home potatoes from the conquest as food for the trip. This lead to the cultivation of this root crop and then became a staple food for the people. The potato was said to be introduced to the Spaniards during the near end of the 16th century in the year 1570.
