The states comprised in the French Estates-General were:

  • Clergy
  • Nobility

The Estates-General were an assembly where only two of the three States of Realm had representation (clergy and nobility) while the Third State could not participate. It was summoned by King Louis XIV.

The Third State sought for representation and created the National Assembly, inviting the other two states to participate as well. The king rejected this idea. This was the origin of the French Revolution from 1789.
