Answer:

Bryan weighed two pieces of metal for an experiment. The piece of copper weighed
2(4)/(5) pounds and the piece of zinc weighed
4(3)/(5)pounds. Calculate the total metal in pounds he used.

Solution:- Weight of copper metal=
2(4)/(5) pounds

Weight of zinc metal=
4(3)/(5)pounds

The total weight of the metal he used=
2(4)/(5)+4(3)/(5) pounds

To solve the sum first convert them into like improper fractions

2(4)/(5)\rightarrow(2*5+4)/(5)=(14)/(5)

4(3)/(5)\rightarrow(5*4+3)/(5)=(23)/(5)

Now, The total weight of the metal he used=
(14)/(5)+(23)/(5)=(37)/(5) pounds

Ans:- Bryan used
(37)/(5) pounds of metal.
