When we have the value for the variable, all we have to do is apply the number to replace the variable, then solve.

-3+y/5 will turn into :- -3+-2.5 -5.5
------------------ = -------------= -1.1
5 5

Now we need to divide -5.5 by 5. We get -1.1

Our final answer: -1.1

If you would like to evaluate - 3 + y / 5 when y = - 2.5, you can calculate this using the following steps:

- 3 + y / 5 = - 3 + (- 2.5) / 5 = - 3 - 0.5 = - 3.5 = - 7/2

The correct result would be - 3.5.
