Describe how to write 0.0000672 in scientific notation

To do this in scientific notation, find the first counting number (anything above zero that isn't a decimal). That is 6. Put a decimal after it. This would be it 6.72. Now count the places before the 6 and after that add 1 more place for the six itself. There is 4 numbers before the 6 and therefore, there is a total of 5. Since it is a decimal, it would be to the negative fifth power. Now multiply 6.72 by 10 to the negative fifth power and this would make it scientific notation. The equation that is written out would be 6.72 x

You have to remeber that you have to have a number that is less than 10, but equal or greater than 1! Okay since your trying to get between 1-10 with this number you would move the decimal point 5 places to the right. And since you are going back it is going to be negative so the answer would be 6.72*10^-5
