A store offers a 30% discount in all reference books. If you pay $14 for a math dictionary, what was the original price of the dictionary?

a 30% discount means you paid 70% of the original cost

x = original cost

x(70%) = 14

x(0.70) = 14

x = 14/0.70 = 20

the original cost before the 30% discount was . . . $20
