Since 4x(12+14) is 104, and just 4x14 is 56, you would do 104-56 and it would be 48. If you do 48+(4x14) you still get the same answer as the other equation.

let the missing number (?) be 'a'
4x(12+14)= a +(4x14)
=>48+ 56 =a +56
=>104 = a+56
=>104=a+56
=>a =104-56
=>a=48 ..
so it is ...4 X (12 +14)=48 +(4 X 14) ..
Hope it helps !!!
