The total miles Donovan walked were 5 3/8, we know that he walked 2 1/4 saturday then:

$\begin{gathered} 5(3)/(8)-2(1)/(4)=(43)/(8)-(9)/(4) \\ =(43)/(8)-(18)/(8) \\ =(25)/(8) \\ =3(1)/(8) \end{gathered}$

He walked 3 1/8 miles on sunday.
