Looking at the diagram, the original coordinates of J are (- 1, 1) After the translation, the coordinates of J' are (0, -1)

By comparing both coordinates, we can see that from -1 to 0 is 0 - - 1 = 1

Thus, there was a shift, 1 unit to the right along the x axis

Also, from 1 to - 1 is 1 - - 1 = 2

Thus, there was a shift, 2 units downwards along the y axis

In translation notation, it is

(x, y) --- (x + 1, y - 2)
