this whole poem is a metaphor of a relationship that is ended b passion or lust (fire) or hatred/a long term revenge vandata. Fire- symbolizes passion lust

Ice- symbolizes a simmering hatred or revenge something slow but deadly the destructive force of human emotions Robert Frost goes from saying " some say" to saying "I"
