Can someone help me understand where the positive 2 came from?-example-1

Answer:

4(-2)-(0)-2(-1)

a negative number multiplied by a negative number will always equal a positive number as the two negatives cancel each other out.

-2 multiplied by -1 equals positive 2

this is why the 2 is positive.

-2 times -1 = positive 2
(two negatives cancel out to form a positive)
