-(k + 9) - 8 = -4k - 9\\ -k-9-8=-4k-9\\ 3k=8\\ k=(8)/(3)

\sf-(k+9)-8=-4k-9

Distribute -1 into the parenthesis:

\sf-k-9-8=-4k-9

Combine like terms:

\sf-k-17=-4k-9

Add 17 to both sides:

\sf-k=-4k+8

Add 4k to both sides:

\sf3k=8

Divide 3 to both sides:

\sf~k=(8)/(3)~or~2(2)/(3)
