Tonya works part time in a store at the mall. She is paid about $200 per week before taxes and Social Security. Tonya pays about $40 out of each weekly check for taxes and Social Security total. What percent of the $200 weekly pay is Tonya paying for taxes and Social Security?

Basically, the percent of the pay check would be 40 over 200. The number you get is then multiplied by 100 to get the percentage:

40 / 200 = 0.2

0.2 in percentage form is 0.2 x 100 = 20%.

Tonya pays 20% of her weekly check for taxes and Social Security.
