Given:

Equation : y=-7/6 x +3

passing through the points (-7,6)

Slope intercept equation (general)

y = mx + b

Where:

m= slope

b= y-intercept

m = -7/6

b= 3

• Parallel lines have equal slopes

m1= -7/6

y= -7/6x + b

Replace (x,y) for the given points (-7,6) and solve for b:

6 = -7/6 (-7) + b

6= 49/6 + b

6 - 49/6 = b

b = -13/6

Parallel line:

y= -7/6x - 13/6

• Perpendicular lines have negative inverse slopes.

m2= 6/7

Same process:

6 = 6/7 (-7) + b

6 = -6 + b

6+6 = b

b= 12

Perpendicular line

y= 6/7x + 12

Answer:

Parallel equation : y= -7/6x - 13/6

Perpendicular equation: y= 6/7x + 12
