PLEASE HELP!! In a recent student government election, the ratio of students who voted for the winner to all the students who voted was 0.88. The number of students who voted was 125. How many votes did the winner get?

Well,

The the ratio of (number of students who voted for the winner) to (total number of students who voted) is 0.88:1.00 (note that .88 (or 88%) represents the number of students who voted for the winner.

We can re-write the decimal as a percent.
88% of the students voted for the winner.

The total number of students who voted was 125. Therefore (.88)125 = number of students who voted for the winner.

(.88)125 = 110

The winner of the election got 110 votes.
