So,

The slope of a line is defined as:


\frac{change\text{ in y}}{corresponding\text{ change in x}}

But the value of x doesn't change in a vertical line, i.e., the change in x is always 0; so the definition of slope would require division by 0 (which is not defined).

Therefore, the slope of the line x=-8 is not defined.
