Why is the enzyme-substrate complex usually compared to a “lock and key” model?

The enzyme-substrate complex is compared to a lock and key model because the active sight (lock) can only be fit by a certain substrate (key) or else the enzyme will not work. Basically saying that the enzyme is very very specific and if anything is incorrectly shaped even by just 1 millimeter it won't work.
