Square ABCD was translated using the rule (x, y) → (x – 4, y + 15) to form A'B'C'D'. What are the coordinates of point D in the pre-image if the coordinates of point D’ in the image are (9, –8)?

x = 9+4 = 13
y = -8 - 15 = - 23

D(13,-23)

Answer:

(13,-23)

Explanation:

A sqaure ABCD was translated using the rule (x,y→(x-4,y+15) to form A'B'C'D'. Now the coordinates of point D in the iamge are (9,-8) therefore pre image of point D is

x-4=9

x=9+4 (by using property when a number go form left to right side then sign changes of a number)

x=13( by using property of addition)

similarly, we find value of y

y+15=-8

y=-8-15

y=-23

hence, the coordinate of D in pre iamge is (13,-23).
