From the graph of function, it can be observed that for x = 1, f(1) is approximately equal to 4.5 and for x = 4, the value function is f(4) = 3.

The formula for the average rate of change of function is,

A=(f(4)-f(1))/(4-1)

Substitute the values in the formula to determine the average rate of change of function.

\begin{gathered} A=(3-4.5)/(4-1) \\ =-(1.5)/(3) \\ =-0.5 \end{gathered}

So avearge rate of change of function from x = 1 to
