px + qx = r....factor out the x's
x(p + q) = r...now divide both sides by (p+q)
x = r/(p+q)

you have to add common like terms in this case it can be px and qx added because they have the same variable(x), so now we have pqx=r now divide by pq both sides to leave x by itself when you do you will be left with x=r/pq

Hope this helps
